    Peach Festival set for Saturday

Candor’s annual Peach Festival celebration will be under way next Saturday, July 19. Planning officials say that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever. With countless vendors already registered to show up and a parade rivaling that of TroyFest, Candor residents are hoping for a “peachy” time.

In preparation for the big day, t-shirts and various peach products, such as the popular pit-earrings and necklaces, will be on sale throughout the week at the local municipal building and banks. Local craft vendors were encouraged to turn out to this year’s event and the town plans to see more unique novelty items than in years past.

Embroidered handbags by Brenda Moon and a first time appearance of Blake’s Family Restaurant and their famous ice cold sweet tea are two of the many attractions worth coming out for.

Children will be able to climb the rock wall or take a tumble down the massive inflatable slide, scheduled to make an appearance at the Saturday event. Adults can relax in the town’s new gazebo or take a ride on Southern Railway’s tour of the town in decorative box cars. As for those individuals needing a little  help reaching the day’s festivities, complimentary rides to and from parking lots will be available.

Grand marshal and local peach farmer, Buddy Sneed, as well as Peach Queen Tiffany Humber will also make an appearance in the parade.

When the temperature gets a little toasty, try out some peach ice cream over at the Chappell stand and enjoy the smooth tunes of the Sand Band and Blue Horizon over at the park. And as the late Katie Myers would say, Candor’s 2008 Peach Festival will surely be a fun time had by one and all.
