A substantial completion date of Sept. 16 has been set for Green Ridge Elementary School. But Bill Mingin, maintenance director, reminds everyone that there will remain much to be done after that date. If that date holds true, a mid October date is projected for move in. Since no dates have been allocated for being off for move in, moving a workday is tentatively being discussed as one way to handle move in.
Reporting to the Montgomery County Board of Education last week, Mingin said following the substantial completion date computers and network wiring will need to be installed. There will be furniture to move in and a host of other items to be completed before the new school is actually ready for children and teachers. Meanwhile future Green Ridge classrooms will be for the most part operating out of mobile units at Star-Biscoe and Candor Elementary School. (See related story elsewhere in the Herald)
During his update to the board, Mingin said he expected the exterior doors to be mounted this week and that would allow for a number of other areas to move forward. Once the doors are in place, the humidity levels could be controlled and electronic items installed. Mingin said the delay in the doors is due to the company the doors were ordered from going out of business.
The terrazzo flooring continues to be installed and is being carefully watched. Weekly meetings with the contractors are occurring and masons are currently correcting a number of masonry problems and deficiencies. Mingin also reported that paving was getting ready to begin at the site.
Progress Energy is preparing to install lighting and Mingin said that plumbing, mechanical, electrical, framing, roofing and painting are on schedule.
