Fire and heavy black smoke darkened the sky around Badin Lake on Saturday, July 4th, when The White House Bar and Grill went up in flames that afternoon. The restaurant was a complete loss despite the fact that the Badin Lake Fire Department was on scene within three minutes of being dispatched.
Reports indicate that Badin Lake Fire Chief Larry Pierce and his wife, who is also a firefighter, were the first on scene with a truck. The largest base for the Badin Lake Fire Department is on Uwharrie Point Parkway which is less than a mile from the restaurant located on Badin Shores Circle. A second truck was on scene three minutes later. A third truck one minute after that.
