A Troy man was killed in an accident Friday afternoon on N.C. 24/27 West near the intersection of N.C. Highway 109 South. The wreck closed down the road for several hours, with traffic rerouted through the small community of Robedo. Todd Stewart, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the two vehicle wreck.

Stewart was traveling eastbound when he went left of center colliding with a garbage truck that was traveling westbound. The driver of that truck, Lonnie Thomas, 52, of Troy, was not injured in the accident.

State Highway Patrol officials said Stewart was involved in a minor fender bender a short time earlier and appeared fine to leave the scene at that time. Officials said there were no contributing factors other than going left of center.
