The Troy mayor’s race is drawing a lot of interest even though it is over a year away. Darren Shopbell, a newcomer to the town, recently announced his intention to seek the office of mayor. He is the second person to announce. Troy resident Craig Jones announced in August. Current mayor, Sherri Allgood, has not made an official statement on her plans as of this date.

Shopbell, a disabled veteran, moved to Troy in 2016 with his wife and two daughters, whom they home school. Shopbell currently works in technology and in financial investment. He served in the Marines and he also serves in the Air National Guard. Originally from Minnesota, Shopbell said Troy reminds him of the town he grew up in. He also lived in the Cary area for several years.
