Delay after delay has occurred with the new operators of the Head Start and Early Head Start programs in the county. Earlier this year the state awarded the contract to operate the programs to the Save the Children organization following financial problems, as well as other issues, with the former operator’s Salisbury Rowan Action Agency. The SRAA had operated the centers for several years.

Khari Garvin, Head Start executive director of programming for Save the Children, said in early September the programs would be up and running by the end of that month; however, no Head Start or Early Head Start programs are operating at this time. In a Nov. 12 email to “Early Care and Education Stakeholders in Stanly, Montgomery, and Moore Counties,” Garvin states the Head Start programs will be operational the first week of December and the Early Head Start programs will be operational in January.
