Members of the Montgomery County Relay for Life Committee met Sept. 10 to wrap up this year’s Relay and begin making plans for May 17, 2013 at West Montgomery High School.
Outgoing co-chairperson Sharon Faulkner and Cameron Whitley, of the American Cancer Society announced that the 2012 Relay met its goal, with 23 teams raising just over $65,000 for cancer research, education and support services.
Relay also benefited area food pantries with more than 600 cans of food, collected to weight the luminaria that surrounded the track on Relay night, in memory or honor of cancer patients and caregivers.
The top 10 teams for 2012, going from number 10 to number one are Candor Elementary, Relay Committee, Pink Elephants, McRae Industries, East Middle School, Klaussner, Star Elementary, Troy First Baptist Church, Biscoe Presbyterian Church, and First Bank.
The top three team totals included First Baptist Troy $6,447; Biscoe Presbyterian $7,665 and First Bank at $15,000.
