Scammers are at it again and this time they are putting a local twist to their scam.

Sheriff Chris Watkins began receiving calls yesterday, Dec. 11, alerting him that someone is calling people claiming that the person missed jury duty and that Sheriff Watkins and Judge Rob Wilkins have issued an arrest warrant for them. The caller goes on to state that paying the fine over the phone can clear up the situation. If the person agrees they go on to get the credit card information. There have been at least two people that have fallen prey to this scam, while several others did not take the bait.

Sheriff Watkins said at no time is a deputy going to ask for your credit card information. He warns people that despite the scammer using local names it is still a scam and is being investigated. Best piece of advice is to just hang up.
