John F. Harris, CFSP of Monroe, was recently elected the 58th president of the Funeral Directors & Morticians Association of North Carolina, Inc. Harris is a certified funeral service practitioner (CFSP), a designation awarded by the Academy of Funeral Service Practice, Inc. This achievement signifies annual requirements of academic, professional and community activities and shows a devotion to the highest levels of ethical care and service to bereaved families. Harris is currently CEO of Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Monroe and Mt. Gilead. The Funeral Directors & Morticians Association of N.C., which Harris leads, was organized in Wilmington in 1927 and has the largest membership in the United States.
Harris is a son of Hubert Harris Sr. of Mt. Gilead, owner of Harris Funeral Home & Cremations of Mt. Gilead and Monroe, and the late Dora Gaines Harris. He is married to Linda Diggs-Harris. He is a 1982 graduate of West Montgomery High School and 1987 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Atlanta, Georgia. Harris is also a member of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe, the City of Monroe Planning Board and the A Few Good Men Organization of Monroe.
