Shirley Ann Haywood Dorsett, 67, of Biscoe, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18, at Long Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Larry Beaver and the Rev. Mark Moore officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Dorsett was a native of  Montgomery County, born to Jonah and Mildred Irene Mauldin Haywood.  She was a retired dietitian at Samarkand Manor.

Survivors include her husband, Harvey Lee Dorsett of the home; daughters, Amy Glover of Troy, Karen Bruce of Ether; sisters, Naomi Stutts of Ellerbe, Cozette Greene of Candor; brothers, James Haywood and Ernest Haywood, both of Troy; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild.


Herman James McLaurin, 90, of Troy, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham.

Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at Neill Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Ken Laton. Burial followed in Glenwood Memorial Park.

Mr. McLaurin was a native of Concord, born to the late Joseph and Cassie Mae Cagle Mclaurin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Azile Loftin McLaurin.

Survivors include his daughter, Tina Hanley of Troy; brother, W.A. McLaurin of Mt. Gilead; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren.


Ann “Penny” Adams Brady, 68, of Troy, died Friday, December 17, 2010 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Brady was a native of McCall, S.C., born to John Fann and Ruby Aikens Fann. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse.

Survivors include her son, Michael Dale Brady of Charlotte; daughters, Robin Allred, Pamela Chappell and Wendy Gladieux, all of Troy, Beth Wilson of Mt. Gilead; sisters Jane Whitley of Troy, Debbie Dunlap of Greensboro; brother, David Fann of Yadkinville; nine grandchildren, nine great- grandchildren.


Phillip Dale Howell, 58, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at his home. 

Private service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Howell was a native of Montgomery County, born to the late Yancey Howell and Mildred Sherrin Howell.  He worked as a taxidermist.

Survivors include sons, Phillip Dale Howell Jr., Paul Howell; sisters, Linda Smith, Vicky Reeder; two grandchildren.


Agnes Russell Dennis, 86, formerly of Troy, died Monday, December 20, 2010.

The funeral will be held Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. at Uwharrie United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jack Luther officiating.  Burial will be in Uwharrie United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Dennis was a native of Montgomery County, the daughter of Cled and Lola Harris Russell.  She was a member of Uwharrie United Methodist Church and a former employee of Capel’s Inc.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd “Mutt” Dennis.

Survivors include brothers, William L. Russell of Thomasville, John L Russell of Flint, Mich., Devereaux Russell of Asheboro.
