James David Greene, 66, of Mt. Gilead, was reunited with his Heavenly Family on Sunday, February 9, 2020.

A funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Thursday, February 13, at Bumgarner Family Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Chris Mabe. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery, Troy.

Born June 8, 1953 in Montgomery County, James was a son of the late Barney Alvin and Opal Parker Greene. He loved football, especially his 49ers, and dancing. He also loved to fish with his brothers and nephews. He was a former long-distance truck driver for Allendale Furniture.

He is survived by daughters, Cindy Greene of Troy, and Rhonda Thompson and Debra Roberts, both of Mt. Gilead; sons, David Shaffey of Oakboro and Joshua Greene of Texas; sisters, Joyce Rouse and Janice Greene, both of Troy, Shirley Blankenship of Mt. Gilead, Patty Greene of Star and Donna Casteen of Troy; brothers, Roger Greene of South Carolina, Billy Ray Greene of Star and Johnny Greene of Kannapolis; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, and brother, J.R. Greene.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Bumgarner Family Funeral Service, Troy.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Levine Cancer Institute, 945 N. 5th St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
