Rachel Lefler Bowles, 64, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at First Health Moore Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held March 5, at Norwood Church of God.  The Rev. Keith Allen and the Rev. Dwight Huffman officiated. Burial followed in Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Candor. 

Mrs. Bowles was a native of Richmond County.  She was a daughter of the late Harvey and Sadie Thompson Lefler.  She attended Norwood Church of God and was a textile retiree.

Survivors include her husband Rayvon Bowles of the home; brothers, Mike Lefler of Biscoe and Jim and Jerry Lefler, both of Mt. Gilead; sisters, Brenda Thompson, Virginia Harris, Jan Dangler and Kay Moore, all of Mt. Gilead.


Betty Jean Futrell Dunn, formerly of Troy, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.

Graveside services were held March 7 at Ophir United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Hancock officiating.

Mrs. Dunn was a native of Montgomery County, the daughter of Paul and Mattie (Harvell) Futrell.  She was a member of Ophir United Methodist Church and a former employee of Shapiro & Shapiro of Asheboro.  She was preceded in death by her husband, James Westley Dunn.

Survivors include daughter, Debbie Hunsucker of Troy; sister, Mary Lee Morris of Troy; two grandchildren.

Larry Wayne Allen, 68,  of Robbins, died Friday, March 5, 2010, at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral service  were held March 8, at Browns Chapel Christian Church with the Rev. Burton King officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Allen was a native of Moore County, born to Dossie and Bertie Freeman Allen.  He attended the Church of God of Prophecy and was a retired foreman with Standard Mineral Company Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Bryson Allen of the home; daughter, Teresa Allen of the home; sons, Kenneth W. Allen and Brian Allen, both of Robbins, Ricky Allen of Eagle Springs; sister, Twila Allen Upchurch of Robbins; brothers, Vinson Allen of Asheboro, Fairel Allen of Greensboro; four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.


Claudene “Deana” Ladonna Cole, 45, of Eagle Springs, died March 3, 2010, at Lenix Hill Hospital, New York.

Funeral services will be held March 10 at 2 p.m. at Zion Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Eagle Springs, with the Rev. Linda Brower officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Schnell Cole of Greensboro; son, Travis Cole of Atlanta, Ga.
