James “JD” Dermont Thompson, 72, of Troy, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, June 25, 2020, under the arbor at Love Joy United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Mark Forrest. His service will be live-streamed on the Bumgarner Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Born October 15, 1947 in Montgomery County, J.D. was a son of the late Richard Dermont and Doris Burns Thompson. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was co-owner of House Doctors.

J.D. is survived by son, Rich Thompson of Troy; daughter, Lauri Kerley of Lexington; grandsons, Marcus Thompson of Charlotte and Jax Kerley of Lexington; brother, Johnny Thompson (Cindy) of Troy; partner, Carol Saunders of the home and her extended family, Crystal and Michael Williamson, Kim and Josh Lucas and Kelsey and Jeremy Maness, all of Troy; grandchildren, McKenzie Williamson, Abigail and Tanner Lucas, Morgan Maness and Lauren Vance (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Nichole Vance, Natalie Vance and Bailey Vance.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Vickie Alexander Thompson; and brother, Charles Thompson.
