Once the storm passes, he recommends they avoid additional damage by putting up tarps on their roof or installing sandbags around their property to avoid additional water damage until adjusters arrive to inspect their property damage.
“This is the time many homeowners and business owners want to begin repairs immediately to recover after the storm,” said Commissioner Causey. “Before paying for any storm damage repairs, be sure to contact your insurance agent or company for instructions on what damage it will pay for and how claims should be processed.”
It is important to lessen any further damage, but many people will pay contractors for repairs immediately after a storm before contacting their insurance company. This may result in claims not being paid as insurers have the right to inspect the damage.
