No upset bids were offered to the town of Star in the time allowed, so the board of commissioners at the regular meeting on April 11 voted unanimously to proceed with the sale of 2.5 acres of the plot adjoining Town Hall on US 220 Alt. to Rhetson Companies for $100,000.

A Rhetson spokesman had told the town the plans for the land would not be revealed at this time, but it would “be beneficial to the entire community.” The Herald has since learned the property will be the site of a Dollar General store. The vote to sell the property, which includes road frontage and the “pink house,” was unanimous from commissioners Mark Maynard, Jennifer Fountain, Aaron Russell, Eddie Bernard and Ray Mims.
