On September 30, 2021, Travis Leon Barrett, 48, of Biscoe, pled guilty to three counts of statutory rape of a child, each being a B1 felony in North Carolina.  Virginia Ann Sullivan, assistant district attorney for Montgomery County, prosecuted the case.

As a result of an investigation that included officers from the Star Police Department, the Biscoe Police Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigations, evidence revealed that Barrett was found in the bed with a juvenile on March 5, 2019, having been engaged in sexual activity.  Further investigation revealed that this sexual misconduct by Barrett with the juvenile had occurred over the previous six months; and Barrett was also providing the juvenile with illegal controlled substances, including methamphetamine.
