The town of Troy is looking to address the growing issue of trash in and around the town by hiring an individual to focus solely on trash pickup. Town Manager Greg Zephir noted that he is also talking with private contractors about this position as well. Zephir said he will keep the board updated on the progress of filling this position.
Zephir updated the board regarding the establishment of community gardens around town, noting the plan is to utilize property that the town already owns and partner with various groups to create these gardens. Some of the groups Zephir has been working with include the Troy Neighborhood Redevelopment Corporation, the Troy-Montgomery Senior Center, the Agricultural Extension agency and the Master Gardner’s Club. The gardens that are being developed include vegetable, flower, herb and fruit in various areas of town. A final plan is expected to be presented to the board for approval at next week’s meeting.
