It is finally nearing the time for candidates to file for Montgomery County Sheriff. Two candidates, Pete Herron and Jamey Kerney, announced their intentions to run well over a year ago, causing confusion for the last two years, with people thinking they should be voting for the office of sheriff at the last two elections. Now the time to officially file is quickly nearing with the opening day of filing on December 6 at noon and ending at noon on Dec. 17.

Both Kerney and Herron are registered Republicans, so they and any other Republican candidate who might decide to file for sheriff will face off in a March 8, 2022 primary. Current Sheriff Chris Watkins does not plan to seek reelection.
