Mt. Gilead residents finally got to see the comprehensive plan the town has been working on since 2019. Much of the early work began long before COVID arrived, with Mosaic gathering information they would need for the plan during the early months of the contract. The group was able to conduct their community outreach meetings during the early part of the pandemic, utilizing social distancing measures. It was also during this time that the state mandated municipalities update their Land Use Plans. Much of that work was done by this same group and incorporated into the plan which is called Mt. Gilead Moving Ahead...Our Town 2040.
The idea is for future boards and community leaders to share in a long range, defined plan of growth for the community. The group made note that for Mt. Gilead to be successful “will require bold leadership that is willing to take calculated risks by pursuing the innovative and transformational strategies proposed in this plan.” The plan is divided into four sections: profile, community vision, recommendations and implementation.
