Star Mayor Mary O’Brien told the board of commissioners at the May 10 meeting that she had “signed the papers” to finalize the purchase of 2.5 acres of the town-owned plot adjoining Town Hall on US 220 Alt by Rhetson Company to build a Dollar General Store.
The representative from Rhetson Company had told Public Works Superintendent Wesley Brown that he could announce the construction of a Dollar General Store after the sale was approved by the board. Commissioners agreed to return the historic bucket displayed with the old well on the property to the family who loaned it to the town. That prompted a discussion among the commissioners on what to do with the items in and around the pink house, including distressed wood and tin roofing as well as interior items. That discussion will be continued at the June meeting.
