County Commissioners Grant Hinson and Mike Criscoe lead charge to

raise taxes, give large raises to 35% of employees, while others receive 2%.

Montgomery County Commissioners voted last week to increase taxes by 2 cents and to give 92 of the 217 employees a signifi cant pay increase of $6,250. The remaining employees will receive $1,000 for those under $50,000 and 2% for those over $50,000. The decision to give differing raises follows a presentation by Montgomery County Sheriff Chris Watkins highlighting the difficulty he is having in hiring and retaining deputies.
