Thomas David Wilkie (Tom) completed his journey through life Friday, February 3, 2023. He was born April 8, 1977 in Moore County but lived most of his life in Montgomery.
He was handsome, witty, hard working and oh so smart. He had the ability to see through problems to find solutions. He enjoyed music as much for how a composition was constructed as for how it sounds. He had a talent and fascination for languages, both human and mechanical, as evidenced by his writing messages in “Elvish” while in high school and computer code later. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed showing off his culinary skills. He was also an avid soccer fan, his favorite team being Croatia.
Tom became a software engineer helping to write software for the many ATMs that we all use. Most recently he was employed by SECU and was recognized for saving the credit union thousands and possibly millions by creating software upgrades “in house” rather hiring outside developers.
He is survived by his parents, Dottie and Dave Wilkie; children, Nicholas, David, Elizabeth, Jake; and grandchild, Dean; also other family members, Debbie Wilkie, Jean Harbin (Brent, Polly, Lee), Mary Wilkie (Michael) and Christine Wilkie.
There will be a remembrance for Tom at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 9, at Phillips Funeral Home in Star, with Rev. Steve Wilkinson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The American Heart Association will be appreciated.
