Youth sports has been one of the most important and beloved activities in Montgomery County; so when the leagues closed down due to the pandemic, it hit the community hard – especially the kids. For the most part, the youth baseball and softball leagues have resumed, but the same wasn’t true for the basketball leagues. That is until a local church started providing Upward basketball.
Upward Sports was founded in Spartanburg, South Carolina in 1995 by Caz McCaslin, whose mission was to help reach the kids in his community through sports. There are now over 2,800 organizations that provide the Upward league – including Troy First Wesleyan Church.
