Clearing the trails is often hard work. Getting the proper equipment to the trail site can be difficult. 

This past Saturday, two friends and I went for a hike in the Birkhead Wilderness Area. We met at Tot Hill Trailhead and hiked in to where it intersects the Robbins Branch Trailhead, then turned around and retraced our steps – all in all about a 5-mile trip. It was a blustery day, but thankfully the rain in the forecast earlier in the week did not happen, so it was a brisk but dry hike.
